The external page 55th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) in 2023 brought together the brightest young minds from around the world to test their knowledge and practical skills in chemistry in Zurich.

The event attracted 348 participants under the age of 20 from more than 90 countries and was covered by external page local television. The competition took place over several days and consisted of a practical and a theoretical exam, testing their understanding of theoretical concepts and their experimental performance.

The successful organisation of the International Chemistry Olympiad in Zurich 2023 was made possible by the joint efforts of the Swiss Chemical Society, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich) and numerous volunteers who gave their time and expertise.

Our own group has also been heavily involved in the organisation of IChO, in particular Patrik Willi as Lead Meetings and Prof. Wendelin Stark as Head of the Scientific Committee.

At the Closing Ceremony tonight, the winners will be announced and the top finishers will receive gold, silver and bronze medals and recognition for their outstanding achievements. Many participants will return home with treasured memories, new friendships and a renewed commitment to a career in chemistry.
