Spin-offs

The innovative research at FML over the last years resulted in several patented applications which laid the fundament for numerous FML founded spin-off companies. For a list of patents that have resulted from our research, see our Patents page. If you are interested in licensing one of our applications, look up our licence opportunities.

diaxxo FML startup

Diaxxo has developed and prototyped an innovative Point-of-Care Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) device. Our vision is to bring the power of molecular diagnostics to every doctor’s office, thanks to our new pre-loaded PCR test kits that allow for simpler and faster sample preparation steps. In 2020 our devices have been used by more than 250 laypeople for the rapid detection of COVID-19 in a field study that we run at ETH Zürich, and our systems are currently being tested at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) and at the Tierspital Zürich. Several medical doctors have already expressed interest in our technology, and we are now working towards the In Vitro diagnostic (IVD) certification.

dimpora takes advantage of the groups basis in small particle synthesis. The use of a template particle to create fully porous membranes affords super high breathability for outdoor enthusiasts. With the extern surface of the template accessible, it can be used as a carrier of a functionalization which introduces the required waterproofing. With this technology it is possible to create highly breathable and fully waterproof membranes in either conventional 2D or also 3D ways.

The cleantech company UniSieve builds gas separation membranes with a patent-pending separation technology, which was invented at the ETH Zürich in Switzerland. Latest materials, which are structured into unique membrane architecture, enable a new dimension of separation performance via molecular sieving. By significantly reducing separation energy demand, CO2 process emissions can be drastically lowered and novel, innovative separation processes become economically feasible.

Turbobeads

TurboBeads are the next generation of magnetic beads. The functional nanomagnets are applied to extract precious components even at very low concentrations, where a fast and cost-efficient separation is needed. Starting from a new design of magnetic carriers in 2007, TurboBeads succeeded in producing metal nanobeads exhibiting a core/shell structure.
